François Robichon de La Guérinière (1688-1751) is often considered the greatest French horseman of all time and the founder of modern horsemanship in France. He simplified the means of training horses and made modifications to their harnessing. His École de cavalerie published in 1731 is illustrated by Charles Parrocel.

provenance: "Josephus Modestus van Haelst was born on 2 Jul 1788 in Zuiddorpe, Zeeland, Nederland, son of Augustinus Henricus VanHaelst (1751–1824) and Johanna Maria de Vlieger. Josephus (26, Landbouwer) married Dominica de Vos (24) (born on 7 Nov 1790 in Koewacht) on 11 Dec 1814 in Zuiddorpe.[1] They had 13 or more children, including: Charles Louis van Haelst (1827–1892). Josephus died on 3 Sep 1840 in Koewacht, Axel, aged 52 (Landbouwer).".
